Rob Van Dam defended the ECW Television Championship across a 700-day reign against nearly every opponent the promotion had, but it was Jerry Lynn, a journeyman a decade into his career, who pushed him into thirty-minute matches nobody else could, in a series both men have credited with proving the TV title could main event over the world championship.

Sabu vs. Taz (Feb 1995 – Apr 1997)

Sabu and Taz won the ECW World Tag Team Championship together, then Sabu skipped a scheduled title match to take a better-paying date in Japan, and Paul Heyman legitimately fired him in front of the ECW Arena crowd. The real resentment Taz carried over it simmered for two years before ECW turned it into one of the two featured matches on the company's first pay-per-view.
